Fairly simple modification to my favourite chorus device. Its possible to use the depth of the vibrato section for the chorus as well now (or switch it back to original). I can perform this mod for your pedal as well! Please contact me here: www.jacobkorn.de/contact

The sound is a dx7 string patch btw.

Modified this little beast of distortion with some new clipping diodes that change the pedal into the Turbo Rat. You can select the stock diodes or disable the whole clipping. 3pedals in one!!! The filter circuit was enhanced by the Ruetz poti that changes the tonal quality a lot.

Those great sounding 70’s preamps from the former GDR broadcasting with discrete design and transformers were found on a local fleamarket.

Now they needed recycled wooden housings (dia boxes) powersupplies und XLR inputs/outputs.

Not the most versatile preamp (no low cut,48V) but perfect for dynamic mics. Really pleased with the coloured tone and the huge amplification of 70dB!!

This one was suffering from juno cancer on one voice. Uncoating the 80017 chip did partially not work (no resonance). Put a replacement chip on a socket and recalibrated all of the 6 voices. Took 2-3h

For the chorus there was used a test-point on the board as input and a new pot was installed for chorus speed. Very useful! 1-2h

Oberheim Matrix 1000 1.16 rom upgrade

Oberheim Matrix 1000 EPROM chip, operating system version 1.16. The last official version released by Oberheim was 1.11; this version corrects some MIDI SysEx control issues that Oberheim overlooked, such as a really slow response to filter cutoff frequency settings. This replaces chip U804 on the main board (it is socketed, so no soldering is required). Took about 30min.

– Bug fixes made by Nordcore.
– MIDI NRPN parameters editing fix.
– Faster processing of parameter changes that need a modulation matrix rebuild, there’s still a small lag but it’s much better than before.
– Unison detune, controlled by MIDI CC #94 (Celeste Level), value from 0 (no detune) to 127 (strongly out of tune). It is always active, even in poly mode. Values around 2-6 add a slow VCO-like detune that helps liven up the sound and keeps poly mode sounding in tune.

5 stage Filter Envelope Generator (Initial Level, Attack level, Attack, Decay, Release)

4 stage Voltage Controlled Amplifier Envelope Generator (Attack, Decay, Release, Sustain)

3 waveforms possible for use in parallel (saw, square, narrow pulse)

CV-control for LPF and VCA for each manual. LFO and sequencer control possible:)

Speed control for the triple chorus + Input and different outputs.

The usual 80017chip fail aka Juno cancer on 4 voices. The bass voice was exchanged before but faulty again. Removed coating, installed sockets, test and calibration done. Nice tuned juno 106 and TR-707 in 2HE rackformat.  5hours.

Pearl DRX-1 mod

Stereoping pointed out some interesting mods for this VCR-looking analog drum beast. Since i like the idea of saving kits i focussed on parameters like tune and decay for realtime control. Triggering those 5 voices by my modded TR-606 with multiple outputs. Great fun!

Duration: 6h.

Thx for the nice documentation!

http://www.stereoping.com/pearl-drx-1-drumsynth/?lang=en

The Pearl DRX-1 has 5 Instruments which can be triggered by drumpads. Of course you can also feed some trigger-signals into it. All intruments have the same parameters and are therefore sounding identical, although the pitchranges are a little different. Beside Bassdrum there is the Snare and 3 Toms. Each has its own trigger-in and an individual out jack, 6.3mm. If you do not use the individual jacks, all sounds are summed together to a stereo-out. Very solid, professional and expensive hardware.

Pearl DRX-1 – back view
Pearl DRX-1 – back view
You have 8 kits to save your parametersets. the kit-selectionbuttons recall the kits immediately, you can switch them live in the song to change the sounds. You can hear that in the soundclip at the pagebottom.

To edit the sounds you select a pad (=sound), with two buttons (+/-) you select the parameter and with two other buttons you can increase/decrease the value. The range is from 1-19 for all parameter.

The Parameters

1. Pitch = the basic tune of the sound

2. Bend = the amount of pitchmodulation, the pitch is also velocity-dependant. heavy hit=more bend. Only positive (piuuuu).

3. Mix OSC/Noise = here you can blend from OSC-only to Noise-Only

4. Overtone = WOW, i love this parameter! It adds some ringmodulation sound to simulate the second drumhead of a tom.

5. Attack = Volume of Attack-Sound, a short enveloped Noise, not a Click. Makes the drumsound more defined and aggressive.

6. Filter = Lowpass for the Noise, also dampens the Attack-sound and even the Oscillator.

7. Decay = with high settings, the sound is very long, 808-like. With the shortest value, the decay is still quite long. It’s because this unit doesnt work with t-briges like the 808/cr78/er-0/dr55 a.s.o. machines but with oscillators that get modulated by enveloped VCAs like on the 909. It has 2×13900 (dual channel-OTAs) per channel.

8. Level = well ..
